This well-made waterway is started on Beijing and finished on Hangzhou. It is located in eastern China. The name of the Grand Canal in Chinese is Da Yunhe. On 19th century the dikes were totally broke for the disastrous flood. On that time China government organize this wonderful project. Many peoples also women, children took part to accomplish this programme. The cost in human lives was huge, perhaps 2 million workers died on the project. All men aged from 15 to 50 were liable to be called up. The Grand Canal also known as the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. The construction began in sui-dynasty. The total length of the canal is 1,794 km (1,115 miles). The canal was made so impressively, width 40 metres (138 ft). The ships did not have any problem to passing. The canal connects to five rivers and the rivers are Hai River, Yellow River, Huai River, Yagnzi River, Qiantang River.

China's first canal system,which created northeast - southeast link from Huang He to the Hui River, was built beginning 605 during the Sui dynasty, in this way the modern grand canal came to beginning. It has six major canals and the canals are Jia Canal, Nanyang New Canal, Huitong Canal, Jizhou Canal, Duke Huan's Conduit, Yilou Canal. In that time the many canals of this artificial river did not cover by the disaster. Many canal live in flood field and economic side is totally unsafe. The people demand that they need economic development and the authority of canal ordered to heavy reconstruction work.
The governments of the Shandong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces planned dredging meant to increase shipping capacity by 40 percent by 2012.On June 22, 2014, The Grand Canal was listed as a World Heritage Site, at the 2014 Conference on World Heritage.
